There's a lot of information about schools that is readily available. It's sometimes overwhelming. A good start is to buy The Ultimate Atlanta School Guide by The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. It is very comprehensive with a lot of key statistics. They also have a lot of this information at their web site at http://www.accessatlanta.com/ajc/metro/schoolguide/ They have statistics such as enrollment, demographics, student/teacher ratios, free/reduced lunches, teacher experience etc.
Amazon.com is running a great deal right now and will give you $20 off you first purchase with their credit card. It takes all of one minute to sign up for their credit card and you get $20 of books free. What a deal!
The Georgia Public Policy Foundation comes out with their rankings every year and it's a good place to find school rankings. Read up on exactly how they rate the schools so you know what they are comparing.

If you want to know the diversity statistics of each individual school even down to each grade level go to http://app.doe.k12.ga.us/ows-bin/owa/fte_pack_ethnicsex.entry_form
If you want to go to an individual school district web site and then dig down to an individual school web site, a good place to start is the following link from the Department of Education. First go to the "System Guides" and select the county you are interested in. From there you should be able to get to any school information for that county. http://www.doe.k12.ga.us/
I don't know if there is any one statistic that I would hang my hat on to determine which is the "best" school. Don't get stuck on a single statistic such as SAT scores. I would do some background research on the Internet first and then go and visit the individual schools that look most promising.
If you have any questions or need some advice, give us a call. It's tough to keep track of everything that's going on in each school district, but we work with a lot of clients who have really researched the schools. We might be able to hook you up with someone we know who has kids going to a particular school that you're interested in. They can really give you the inside scoop on things.
